Position Overview

As a Lead Interactive Experience Engineer at Fraunhofer FOKUS, you will spearhead the research, design, and implementation of state-of-the-art digital engagement technologies. Your work will be critical in developing sophisticated platforms and tools that elevate end-user interaction to unprecedented levels of immersion and responsiveness.

This role demands a blend of visionary thinking, practical engineering expertise, and leadership capabilities to guide multidisciplinary project teams in delivering future-facing solutions. You will collaborate closely with academic researchers, industry partners, and technology innovators to push the boundaries of what is technically possible.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization and architecture of interactive systems enabling rich, intuitive user experiences within digital environments.
• Design and develop advanced algorithms and scalable software solutions that facilitate real-time content delivery, personalization, and adaptive interaction.
• Drive innovation in integrating immersive technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) into digital platforms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including UX/UI designers, data scientists, and network engineers to ensure cohesive technology integration.
• Oversee all phases of project development lifecycle, from prototype through testing and deployment, ensuring adherence to the highest standards.
• Engage with external partners, technology consortia, and standards organizations to promote interoperability and adoption of open communication frameworks.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster an environment of continuous learning and technical excellence within the group.

Required Qualifications

• University degree (MSc or PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction or a closely related field.
• Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) in designing and developing interactive digital platforms or sophisticated user-facing technologies.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, JavaScript, Python, or equivalent.
• Strong background in algorithms, real-time data processing, and software architecture.
• Hands-on knowledge of immersive and interactive technologies (e.g., AR/VR/MR, 3D graphics frameworks, spatial audio).
• Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing technical teams and coordinating across multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent communication abilities to present complex ideas clearly in both technical and non-technical environments.
• Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in German is an advantage.
