Position Overview
The Real-Time Embedded Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in the development of embedded software and hardware solutions that require deterministic behavior under strict timing constraints. These solutions are instrumental in next-generation transport systems, including those that demand exceptional reliability and real-time control under rigorous operational conditions.
This role requires an individual with strong analytical capabilities, deep understanding of embedded architectures, and expertise in developing and verifying highly optimized code that can operate flawlessly in safety-oriented environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate embedded software for real-time operating systems (RTOS) tailored to mission-critical control units and signal processing platforms.
- Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including hardware, firmware, and systems integration groups, to ensure seamless interoperability and system performance.
- Participate in requirements gathering sessions, technical design reviews, and system architecture discussions for embedded subsystem projects.
- Implement rigorous testing methodologies, including unit, integration, and system-level testing protocols to guarantee software integrity and compliance with robust industry standards.
- Investigate and troubleshoot complex issues arising during the prototyping, testing, and deployment phases, providing sustainable and scalable solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of software development life cycle processes, with an emphasis on traceability, documentation, and quality metrics.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, tools, and best practices relevant to embedded systems within mission-critical transportation platforms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in embedded software development within environments demanding strict real-time performance and safety compliance.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming languages and assembly language for microcontroller platforms.
- In-depth understanding of microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex, PowerPC) and embedded operating systems such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or QNX.
- Experience with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG debuggers) and communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART).
- Familiarity with software development tools including version control (Git), issue tracking, and build systems.
- Knowledge of safety standards and certification processes applicable to transport-related control systems (e.g., DO-178C or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills paired with excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in signal processing algorithms and their implementation in embedded platforms.
- Understanding of networked control systems and real-time data communication.
- Ability to take initiative and mentor junior engineers within a collaborative team setting.
- Experience with model-based design tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
